Environmental Responsibility

The Faber-Castell group takes pride in its efforts to sustain the environment and is widely recognized for its social and environmental initiatives. Testimony to such recognition are the awards and certifications the Group has achieved from world bodies like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), which is a committee of the world's most powerful forestry experts, including organizations such as Greenpeace and WWF.

Reforestation in Brazil

Forestry plantations help preserve and maintain native forests by providing an alternative and renewable resource for our future generations. In Brazil, we use fast-growing soft wood from our managed forests, planted on former barren savannah, and we maintain our own tree nurseries. Seedlings are continually planted to replace each row of trees felled: a sustainable ecological cycle. Over a million young saplings of type Pinus caribaea are planted each year on a total area of approximately 100 square kilometers.

Conserving natural resources is just one part of our commitment towards a better quality of life. As part of an "Integrated Product Policy" the entire life cycle of our products is subjected to critical analysis in order to reduce the long-term energy requirements to a minimum. Faber-Castell is the only company in the world to use environment-friendly water based paints for all its wood-cased pencils produced in Europe - another significant and pioneering step.
